Anxiety disorder treatment: What is available?

Anxiety attacks tend to happen out of the blue with no known triggers, however when they do happen that can be a traumatic and daunting experience. Anxiety attacks are considered to be harmless in nature but if they persist it is best to undergo some form of anxiety disorder treatment.

Some of the common symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder include:

  • Feeling anxious for no apparent reason.

  • A general sense that something bad is about to happen.

These medications will control the activity of chemicals in the brain which are thought to have a role in anxiety disorders. The most common of these is a medication known as BuSpar which is an antidepressant drug which usually takes several weeks to have some effect. However medications such as BuSpar can have side effects suche as nausea, headaches and insomnia which are conditions you wouldn’t want to be suffering.

So how can you begin to reduce the frequency of anxiety or panic attacks without medication? There are a number of casual anxiety disorder treatments that you can practice at home on your own without the need to visit a therapist or councilor. The most common of these is to relax your body by breathing deeply and thinking of things which have calming effects to you. As you do this you can slowly release the tension in your arms, legs and abdomen.
